“This is not just one of the largest and most significant competitions; it is a competition that discovers new names every time it’s held. Participation in the Competition for musicians from all over the world is perceived as a ticket to a good professional life”, said Olga Golodets, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, co-chair of the Organizing Committee of the Competition.

The meeting was attended by Valery Gergiev, co-chair of the Organizing Committee of the Competition, Vladimir Medinsky, Minister of Culture, Vladimir Tolstoy, presidential adviser for cultural affairs and Yuri Bashmet, conductor. The Competition will be held at the best concert venues of Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Maestro Gergiev proposed to hold a ceremonial closing of the show in the new Zaryadye Concert Hall. The Organizing Committee of the Competition is reviewing its approach to the formation of the jury: it is assumed that now the young contestants will be evaluated by the same jury panel throughout the review. The International Tchaikovsky Competition will be supplemented with a new specialty, Wind and Brass Instruments.

“Today’s emergence of new disciplines, for example, flutists, goboists, bassoonists, performers on brass instruments, trumpeters, tuba players, are fighting for the Gold Medals of the International Tchaikovsky Competition, this can be a huge step forward. And on the scale of the whole country, the question of the appearance of highly qualified professionals among the performers on wind and brass instruments, will cease to be a problem”, said Valery Gergiev, co-chair of the Organizing Committee, People’s Artist of Russia.
