Yulia Matochkina will take part in the first performance of Gustav Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde at the Mariinsky Theatre

On 30 January 2019, at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre, one of Gustav Mahler’s greatest works, Das Lied von der Erde, will be performed for the first time. The opus is based on translations and adaptations of Chinese ancient poetry of the 8th and 9th centuries.

First Prize winner at the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition Yulia Matochkina (mezzo-soprano) will be the first performer of Das Lied von der Erde on the stage of the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre. The partner of the soloist will be Mikhail Vekua (tenor). The program will also include Symphony No. 4 – Italian, by Felix Mendelssohn.

On 1 February 2019, Das Lied von der Erde  will be performed by the Mariinsky Orchestra in Zaryadye Concert Hall in Moscow. The voice parts will again be performed by Yulia Matochkina and Mikhail Vekua. The program will also include Violin Concerto No. 1 by Dmitry Shostakovich. Soloist - Sergey Khachatryan. 

Valery Gergiev will take the conductor’s stand on both nights.
