XXVII Stars of the White Nights Festival – Preview to the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition

The Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre will host a series of concerts Preview to the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition

On June 6, 9 and 13, 2019 the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre will host a series of concerts Preview to the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition. Winners of the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition such as Alexander Buzlov (cello), Lukas Geniušas (piano) and musicians of the Mariinsky Orchestra will perform as soloists in the concert programs. The festival will also include concerts of jury members at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition and laureates of previous years: Lucas Debargue (May 23), Denis Matsuev (June 6), Jan Vogler (June 12), Mario Brunello (June 23), Nelson Freire (June 24), and Daniil Trifonov (June 30) will appear with the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev; Lucas Debargue (May 22), Sergey Roldugin (June 10), Kristóf Baráti (June 15), Pavel Milyukov (June 17), Daniil Trifonov (July 1), Ferruccio Furlanetto (July 2), István Várdai(July 19), and Dmitry Masleev (July 21) will represent their solo and chamber programs. Soloists of the Mariinsky Opera YuliaMatochkina (prizewinner at the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition) and Mikhail Petrenko (jury member at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition) as well as opera starsand jury members at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition Albina Shagimuratova (June 26 and July 4) and Ferruccio Furlanetto (June 15 and June 24) will perform in concerts and performances of the Mariinsky Theatre.

The final rounds of the Competition in the Voice and Winds and Brass Instruments categories will be held at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre and the New Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre (Mariinsky II) on June 27. The gala concert of new winners will be given on June 29.
