Today maestro Valery Gergiev, co-chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Thaikovsky International Competition, is celebrating his anniversary!
Right on his birthday Maestro will take the helm of the Mariinski Symphony Orchestra at the Grand Gala Concert for the 10th anniversary of Mariinski-2 which will take place tonight at 19.00 on the new stage.
Valery Gergiev is the founder of the prestigious international festivals including the «Stars of the White Nights» (1993), the Moscow Easter Festival (2002), Rotterdam Gergiev Festival, the Mikkeli Music Festival (Finland), the «360 degrees» in Munich.
He has been at the head of the Organizing Committee of the Thaikovsky International Competition since 2011.
Valery Gergiev pays great attention to working with young musicians. On his initiative, the All-Russian Choir Society was revived, on the basis of which the Children's Choir of Russia was created. The Children’s Choir performed in the Mariinsky Theatre, the Russian Grand Theatre and at the closing of the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
