Valery Gergiev gives a start to a special project in anticipation of the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition

Co-chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Tchaikovsky Competition, Valery Gergiev starts «Tchaikovsky Land», a special cultural and educational project in the run-up to the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition.

As part of the project, world-famous people of the country, leaders in their fields, and masterful and artistic youths read the most vivid fragments from the diaries of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

The project is intended to focus the attention of a wide audience on the figure of the great Russian composer.

The project featured Valery Gergiev, the Artistic and General Director of the Mariinsky Theatre ; Irina Viner, the president of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics ; Ildar Abdrazakov, opera singer, two-time Grammy Award Winner; Vladimir Tolstoy, the President of the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature, the President of ICOM, a great-great-grandson of Leo Tolstoy; Nikolay Tsiskaridze, the rector of the Vaganova Russian Ballet Academy; Denis Matsuev, pianist, artistic director of international piano competitions and festivals; Lev Bakirov, Grand-Prix Winner of the Rachmaninoff International Youth Piano Competition; Hibla Gerzmava, a brilliant opera star, Founder and Artistic Director of the International Opera Competition and Festival; Vladimir Spivakov, a virtuoso violinist, Head of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia; Ivan Bessonov, Gold medalist of the Rachmaninoff International Competition for Pianists, Conductors and Composers; Sergey Krikalev, cosmonaut, Hero of the Soviet Union and hero of the Russian Federation, Executive director for Roskosmos Human Spaceflight Program; Sergey Bezrukov, film and stage actor, artistic director of the Moscow Gubernsky Theater; and many others.
